Thread exchange anyone ?
I am wondering if anyone would be interested in joining in with a birthday thread exchange to start next year ?
The idea would be to send a stitched card and a couple of threads to all members who sign up , on their birthdays . I am opening it up for discussion etc now so there is plenty of time to get organised in case of January birthdays etc .
Due to the nature of trusting in this , I am also going to restrict joining up to people with regular blogs and/or those already well known in the blogging world , unless you have one of the above willing to vouch for you .
Please remember though , if this does go ahead , you are expected to carry through for the whole year and for everyones' birthdays . Anyone failing to do so , without a very good reason WILL be named and shamed. Sorry to have to put this , but it would be really unfair for someone to send out just until their own birthdays or something .
Without wishing to state the obvious , it is worth bearing in mind that lot of people will then have your address , so please think carefully before signing up if this could cause any problems .
I am also debating on whether to have just for UK , or worldwide , so any comments/ideas would be very much appreciated.
Also , would you prefer to state what colours you would like , or take pot luck ? Types of threads would also be up for discussion. I would not want to say just specialised threads in case of financial difficulties , but some people might want to send them , so personally I would just say whatever you want to send , and accept that you may get different ones in return.
Please take into account the cost of postage .
I would possibly open up another blog to showcase pics of cards received etc .
This is just an idea at the moment, so please feel free to put in your two pennorth worth . If I do decide to go ahead , I will post again with sign up details .
Thanks ,
Cath

Oh I would love to join a birthday thread exchange!
I love the thought of it being 'well known', regular bloggers.
I would be happy if it was UK or a mix of worldwide but would prefer not too many international ones as postage is quite expensive these days.
What about a database of what types of threads people like? It would be a shame to send silks to a silk hater or DMC to an Anchor enthusiast. Although I personally love being introduced to new threads (and everything else!)
I wouldn't mind colours personally but I can see some people might. Again perhaps there could be a database for that?
Would there be a set amount to send? Say £5 or $8 for example? I think that works out about the same.
My only worry is that I am not very good at the card making bit but I'm definitely up for it!!
An interesting idea. I'll watch & see how things go.
Its a brilliant idea. I couldnt sign up as we have very few craft shops etc in Ireland and it really is hard to get hold of stuff. I am sure lots will though!
I would love to be in, and happy to send anywhere in the world, great idea
Great idea. I'm wondering about two things, though - the cost of international postage if there were a lot out of each participant's home country, and the total number of participants. I think this is a great idea but couldn't make dozens of cards. Would it be horribly hard as the coordinator to separate by area (or at least limit the number of very long distance mailings - I certainly wouldn't mind a few), numbers, and whatever else could stop people from joining in? Or maybe I'm just over-thinking this?
This is a popular thing on a MB I belong to.
I would join...:)I love the idea.:)
Hugs.:)
Sounds like a fun idea ~ but, at this time, I am not able to commit...looking forward to seeing how it goes ~ good luck!!
Sounds like a lot of fun. You can count me in if international participants are allowed. ;)
Specialty threads are hard to come by here(Nl), but maybe a good excuse to go hunting.
Ohh this sounds so fun :D I think it's a great idea!!
But I'm a bit afraid to commit with something for next year.. since I'll have a baby arriving :) I don't know if it will be too much to handle :p But I'll think about it a little more ;)
So far, I think it sounds great, really fun and I bet many blogger friends will want to join! :)
As much as I would love to my birthday is 31st decemeber, I often get people tell me they were "too busy" or "can't afford" because of christmas...without sounding selfish i wouldn't want to sending out all year then be left disappointed :(
