Bolsover Castle (part one)

These pictures are actually from last year , but we did so much in the summer holidays that I never got around to posting them. Bolsover Castle is not too far from us ,especially now that it has it's own exit junction from the M1 , it only takes us about 15 minutes to get there.
We decided to go out one Sunday last year , but didn't know where to go so just started driving to see where the road would take us . We stopped off at one place that looked as though there wasn't much there, but it cost a lot to get in .So in a round about way we got to the Castle. We paid to go in , enjoyed a look round then my husband decided that we might as well join English Heritage as we got our entrance fee back , and it meant we could go to lots of other places too . Plus , we got an extra three months membership for free by doing it direct debit.
The castle was built by the Peverel family ,and bought in 1612 by Sir Charles Cavendish who set about building "The Little Castle" a small keep that you can now walk around and view some of the paintings, murals and other artefacts.
The view from the entrance .
A scale model of the castle.
Parts of the ruins , which are still safe enough in the most part to walk around .Look at the view !
The door to the Little Castle . Some of the paintings .The ceiling in "The Star Room" , I love this , it's so pretty. The famous Venus Fountain . This is known to be one of or the most rude fountain ever . And not just for the tinkling cherubs , the creatures around the fountain are very well endowed , if you know what I mean , lol.

edit: to add this pic , lol. We had a great afternoon out ,and have been back since for events , which I will post about another time . To be continued....

Thanks for dropping by ,

Cath
